Hey! It’s February!
I’ve been working on my root chakra for a little while now. Shifting my focus back onto improving myself has made such a difference for me. Although balancing your energies is a constant battle, I feel better in tact than I was before.
In my first post about the root chakra I said, “If your root chakra is in balance or open properly, you will feel secure in your world and daily tasks will seem effortless. You will not have any doubts about your place in the world and things will work for you, whether it be with relationships, money or with a career.” When I first started working on my root chakra again, it was probably the perfect timing. I had just graduated a month prior, and wasn’t really sure where my career with Anthropologie was headed. I really had to let go and trust that things would work out for me. By having that focus every day, I felt like I was able to handle the stress of not knowing about my career for a month. Finally, the new fiscal year rolled in for the company, and I found out that I was promoted to a supervisor position. All of the patience and hard work I had put in paid off. I just have to keep the mentality that things will continue to work out for me when they are supposed to, and I will grow even further with my career.
“I am open to possibilities.
I am grateful for all the challenges that helped me to grow and transform.
I trust in the goodness of life.”
While working on this chakra, I really tried to incorporate a healthier lifestyle. While I didn’t ALWAYS eat super healthy, (I’m working on it, okay?!) I did start doing yoga again. This made me feel like I was actually paying attention to my body, and was giving it what it needed. The root chakra puts a lot of focus on the physical. It challenges you to fuel your body with nutritional foods, lots of water, and exercise. By feeding your body with what the earth naturally offers up to you, you are more connected to the earth.
“I am grounded, stable, and standing on my own two feet.
I nurture my body with healthy food, clean water, exercise, relaxation, and connection with nature.”
I am going to continue to work on eating clean, and eating foods that make my body feel good. I want to continue my yoga practice and really keep going with the balance of this new life I’ve started.
Overall, I am feeling great! I think I am about ready to shift my attention to the next chakra.
I wanted to link a few videos that have been really wonderful for stimulating my root chakra and really making me feel grounded. Doing yoga is something that I really wanted to make a regular practice in the new year, and so far, so good!
I like the idea of doing yoga in my own home because I can go at the pace I want, really stretch deep where it feels right, and really respond to my own body.
So, here they are!
Let’s start feeling grounded.
In order for you to really heal, you have to search within yourself. You have to really ask yourself what your character, soul, body, mind is missing. If you want to do that, you have to quiet the mind, and let yourself speak. This can be called meditating. Take yourself to a comfortable, quiet space where you can focus on what is on your mind. Doing this has helped me TREMENDOUSLY in the past.
When balancing my chakras, sometimes I use other tools to help my brain really hone in on what I am trying to accomplish. It is easy to let your mind wander to other things. I have used yoga, guided meditations, music, and crystals to help keep my mind in the right place.
Today, lets talk about crystals.
I use crystals healing often. Different kinds of crystals can make the energy around you feel different. Different kinds of crystals can also help stimulate certain chakras. If you want to learn a little more about crystals and how to make a crystal grid, THIS POST from last year goes a little more in detail.
If you are trying to stimulate your root chakras, Carnelian, Citrine, Red Jasper, are all helpful crystals. Instead of just creating a grid, you can also do medications with crystals.
In order to do this, get yourself in a comfortable position. It could be in your bed, in the bath, on your yoga mat.. wherever is comfortable for you.
Place the stones in a circular formation over your root chakra (pelvic area). We place the crystals in a wheel formation to mimic the wheel-like energy that flows through your chakras. If the area is blocked, then the crystals will give energy to that area to make it flow again.
“Once you feel comfortable, ask for guidance from whatever your personal belief system is. You will be able to listen and trust the information that you receive. Ask yourself if there is anything from your past belief systems that is holding you back today.Once you feel as if you have gained some helpful information from your higher self, remove the crystals. Write down any information you received in a journal. Rinse your root chakra stones off under running water, and sage them with smoke. Place them back in the bag or whatever sacred space you store them in. ” (source)
I like to do crystal meditations before bed or when I am in the bath, because I feel most at peace. Again, you can also make grids around your house to stimulate your chakras and overall energy.
Chakra energy boost tip: If you are going to be meditating in the bath, try adding in a little ginger scented bubble bath. Ginger is a great way to stimulate your root chakra since it is a root, and grows underneath the earth!
More to come,
For the past couple of days I have had a horrible cold. I haven’t had a cold in probably a year and a half! Jason offered to make his carrot/ ginger soup, which was perfect for my sick self. I realized that this soup would most definitely stimulate my root chakra too!
In order to stimulate the root chakra with foods, they should be the color red or actually be roots or a vegetable that are grown underneath the ground. This soup is loaded with root-stimulants. The main ingredients are carrots, ginger, onions, and garlic. All of these foods can help cleanse and support your root chakra. (PS- this soup is completely vegan!)
Now, for the recipe:
4 cups of vegetable broth
1 yellow onion, chopped
2 cloves of garlic, minced
2 teaspoons of freshly grated ginger
1 pound of carrots, coarsely chopped.
2 teaspoons of ground turmeric
1 teaspoon of lemon juice
Step One: Prep yourself
Next: Get out a big stock pot
First add a little olive oil to coat the bottom of the pot. Add onions, ginger, and garlic with salt, pepper, and turmeric. Sauté for about a minute. Add carrots in, and add the vegetable broth. Bring to a boil. Add lemon juice.
Reduce to a simmer, cover, and cook for about 20-25 minutes. Make sure the carrots are nice and tender.
Next: Pour all of this into the food processor
Remember: Stimulating your chakras is all about intention. It may sound silly, but try to set an intention for all of the things you do that will balance your chakras, it makes them that much more powerful. Think of the Universe as a place that is listening to all of your thoughts and taking them as calls to action. (If you are religious, you can do something similar with prayer)
Active intentions are things like: a clear visualization of an outcome; thinking, ‘I will do this’, ‘This is what I see happening’, ‘This is what I want’, ‘I see myself doing …’, ‘This is what I am meant to do’, etc; strong, clear detailed thoughts; clear thoughts that give you a feeling of peace and goodness within you
The basics of this recipe came from mindbodygreen.com; but I have modified it to make it vegan and a little simpler.
I will begin my balancing journey from the bottom up. I will start at the root… literally.
The root chakra is the very first chakra. Its location is at the bottom of the spine.”It is the root of your being and establishes the deepest connections with your physical body, your environment and with the Earth. Muladhara is the most instinctual of all chakras – it is your survival center. Your fight and flight response is initiated from this chakra. This is your primal, animal nature. The energy of Muladhara allows us to harness courage, resourcefulness and the will to live during trying times.” (source)
According to mindbodygreen.com “Your root chakra might need balancing if you feel controlling or quick to anger—among other things—or if you feel a lack of confidence and insufficient drive to achieve simple life goals. When your root chakra is balanced, you have energy and self-confidence rather than arrogance or fear, and you feel calm, centered and ready for what life brings.”
If your root chakra is in balance or open properly, you will feel secure in your world and daily tasks will seem effortless. You will not have any doubts about your place in the world and things will work for you, whether it be with relationships, money or with a career. You will work with the world and not against it!
Over-Active Root Chakra:
If the root chakra is over-active you may experience anger, annoyance and even aggression towards people and events in your life. Greediness and controlling others and becoming biligerant to those who challenge your “authority” may be a problem. You might become dependant on the security from other people, your job, or specific habits and because of this you will have very rigid boundaries – making it very difficult for you to accept change. You may also become very materialistic or impulsive and think that your value or self-worth exists in having such things. Problems with an over-active sex drive may arise due to the over-activeness of the root chakra.
Under-Active Root Chakra:
If your root chakra is under-active you may feel disconnected from the world around you, including from your body. You will feel disorganized and consequently this will reflect in your world. You will lack focus and discipline and you may even become afraid, anxious or restless in your daily interactions. You will probably experience a lack of stamina, depression or desire to do or to want anything out of life. You will have trouble obtaining financial security and will find yourself with no, or very little boundaries.
Physical symptoms of an Imbalance:
Weight-loss/gain, over or underactive sex drive, poor immune system, anemia, depression, laziness, irritable bowel syndrome are all possible physical symptoms of an imbalance within the root chakra. (source)
For me, I have the feeling that this chakra is a little under-active at times. I am at a transitional point in my life, which doesn’t make me feel very grounded. Because I have recently graduated from college, I don’t know exactly where my career is headed yet, and I think that makes me feel less secure than I should feel.
“Rhys Thomas Institute of Energy Medicine and Margaret Lynch, a leader in the EFT—Emotional Freedom Technique says that to see how your root chakra is functioning, look at the things in your life that are working and the things that are not. Look at your car, your house, your clothing and the physical aspect of yourself. Take a look at how your parents and ancestors relationship was with money. Were there any cultural rules regarding money such as, “You need to work hard for money,” or “This is just how it is for people like us,” or “I am not going to be money hungry and unhappy like my family,”? All these unspoken belief systems are rooted and programmed into the root chakra. To have a root chakra that is healed and balanced, the belief system that you have unconsciously held needs to be addressed. How do you know what belief systems you have unconsciously made about money and your personal security? The answers must come from within you. So you will have to sit quietly with yourself.” (source)
To start stimulating this chakra, I am going to start with some affirmations. Throughout the next month, I am going to speak these affirmations to myself in the morning, and before I go to bed. This is just the beginning.
Root Chakra Affirmations:
I feel deeply rooted.
I am connected to my body.
I feel safe and secure.
Just like a tree or a star, I have a right to be here.
I stand for my values, for truth, and for justice.
I have what I need.
I am grounded, stable, and standing on my own two feet.
I nurture my body with healthy food, clean water, exercise, relaxation, and connection with nature.
I am open to possibilities.
I am grateful for all the challenges that helped me to grow and transform.
I trust in the goodness of life.
I make choice that are healthy and good for me.
I trust myself.
I love life.
I mentioned in my last post that one of my goals this year is to begin cleansing and healing my chakra energy centers. I want to blog about my experiences with it, and how you can do your own cleansing at home.
Before I embark on this adventure, I wanted to give a little more detail about what exactly chakras are, how to target them, and what this all means. I got into this type of healing about two years ago, and it has made a huge difference in how I approach my health and my life. To me, this type of healing is really appealing because it does not have to be specific to any one religion. Though it comes from various Eastern traditions and religions, it can apply to any person of any faith. There are ways to incorporate any kind of deity within your personal practice. Say, for example, if you are Christian, you may want to include prayer, and worship during your meditation, or look to God to help you heal a certain chakra or part of the body. Balancing your chakras is simply focusing on every aspect of your body, mind, and soul. It is checking in with yourself, and making sure that every part of your life and body is circulating well. Before beginning, you must have the understanding that your mind, body, and spirit are all one. If something in your spirit is low, something with your health of body could be suffering as a result.
According to chakraenergy.com, “Throughout our body we have main energy centers, which are connected to major organs or glands that govern other body parts. Each of these main energy centers are referred to as chakra–chakra is a Sanskrit word which means wheel. A chakra is a wheel-like spinning vortex that whirls in a circular motion forming a vacuum in the center that draws in anything it encounters on its particular vibratory level.” These energy vortexes can absorb energy from anywhere. It can range from color vibrations, to the sun’s rays, to another person’s energy. Have you ever been in a room with someone who is in a super negative mood? Suddenly you start to feel negative, and low in spirit. This is a small example of how your chakras can be affected.
Chakraenergy.com says, “The seven main chakra centers are aligned along the spinal column. If there are disturbances on any level, this shows in the chakra’s vitality level. Also each of the seven main chakras is their own intelligence center. This means that each chakra is not only associated with our physical health but also controls aspects connected to our emotional, mental and belief system. On the physical level each chakra governs a main organ or gland, which is then connected to other body parts that resonate the same frequency. “
If you would like to learn a little bit more about chakras and how they can be affected, check out the video below. This series of videos on YouTube is really informational and interesting, if you can get past his funny little voice. I am going to include his lesson on Chakras here for a more concise explanation. I encourage you to keep an open mind as we begin this process.
I will begin my process of re-balancing by starting with the root chakra. Stay tuned for more posts.
